Upward Bound House

18 prominent interior designers from Los Angeles will be donating their services to create rooms for homeless families at Upward Bound House’s new emergency Family Shelter, This former budget motel will provide emergency housing and services for homeless children and their parents, and will help more than 70 families with minor children each year.




Lead Interior Designer, Vanessa De Vargas from Turquoise has brought on top designers who will apply their unique flair and creativity to decorate one unit. Designers include Erica Islas, Kelly LaPlante, Bridgid Coulter, Nicole Sassaman, Cory Pernicano, Linda Graveline, Jessica Brende, Nadia Geller, Rachel Winokur, Carlo Rios, Cozette Coffman, Christy Biberich, Elizabeth Bomberger, Typhanie Peterson, Rhonda Konowalow Angell, Melissa Capehart and Lynnea Schwieters.




Furniture and accessory donations are being provided by the following companies: Zia-priven, Waterworks, Benjamin Moore, Duralee Fabrics, Empiric Studio, The Woven Company, Ferm Living, Mjh Decorative Arts, Henry Road, Distant, Paper Mosiac Studio, Lana Kole Studio, M.B. + Assoc., Jillian Kogan, Kohls, Ashley Lighting, Madison and Grow, Environment Furniture, Modern One, Eclectics, Clark G. Davis, DL Rhein, Alysia Cotter Photography and Euro-Chic Living.




The opening event for the new shelter will take place January 29 2010 at the Shelter starting at 1:00 pm located at 12841 West Washington Blvd, Culver City, CA 90066. Designers will be on hand to showcase the units that they designed and decorated. Families are scheduled to move into the facility as early as February 1st, 2010. The mission of Upward Bound House is to eliminate homelessness among families with children in Los Angeles by providing housing, supportive services and advocacy. Since 1997, more than 1,100 individuals – including over 650 children – have graduated from Upward Bound House and are no longer homeless. The agency boasts a 95% success rate of families securing – and retaining – permanent housing.
